PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Instructional Technology Specialist, Morgan State University

Communications & Graphic Design – Act as departmental communications manager, writer, graphic designer, and curator for: website, blog, and e-newsletters. Design and produce brand and branding collaterals that speak to the university community. Develop long-term communications plan to raise the profile of Instructional Technology tools and resources across campus. Design targeted messages, promotions, and campaigns. Track and interpret digital analytics to provide improved resources for target audiences.

Professional Development & Training – Consult, advise, and assist faculty in student learning outcomes, technology-enhanced teaching, and varied assessment tools. Work collaboratively with academic and administrative departments, to identify, develop, and facilitate educational technology (ed-tech) related training; create instructional videos, documentation and user guides to facilitate digital fluency. Develop and facilitate workshops and provide support (in-person and online) in the use of teaching tools: LMS, online video libraries, Gartner Research Portal, and educational multimedia.

Event Planning – Plan, promote, and execute events with campus partners, which highlight innovative uses of technology; from conceptualizing these events, to graphic design, social media/print/multimedia advertising, to hosting during the events.

Communications & Graphic Design – Led the Technology Launch Team in developing long and short-term communications plans to reach multiple university communities and a variety of target audiences. Set metrics for targets based on analytics and past campaign performance.
Acted as departmental graphic designer, and social media coordinator. Developed campaigns to effectively reach target audiences. Designed and developed various collaterals, including: logos, infographics, mobile applications, websites, brochures, online courses and interactive learning tools. Acted as writer, editor and curator for website, blog, e-newsletter, and social media; tracked analytics for ongoing growth and improvement.

Developed and designed interactive instructional media—from beginning to end—including: scripts and storyboards, narration, websites, instructional audio and video, online learning modules, and mobile applications; monitored their effectiveness and provided ongoing technical support. Maintained compliance with the Section 504 of Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA).

Designed, developed, tested and launched the Field Guide to Technology Mobile application.

Professional Development & Training – Developed video tutorials, print, and web training assets. Provided professional development workshops on new technologies and software for faculty (TechTalk webinar series). Trained faculty and administrators in Moodle Learner Management System (LMS), educational technologies, and software. Acted as administrator and subject matter expert for the LMS, Panopto Lecture Capture, and Adobe Connect synchronous learning tools.

Student Development – Recruited, hired, trained, and supervised student employees and summer interns. Acted as internship supervisor, completed internship review, and submitted final grades. At the close of their summer internship students have had advanced graphic design experience—developing print and digital design, video, and mobile applications for a variety of on-campus clients. They’ve received individual guidance in developing both resume and portfolio.

Digital Publishing – Lectured and taught an intensive introduction to page layout and design, typography, illustration, and presentation software: Adobe Creative Cloud, Photoshop and InDesign, WordPress CMS, and Microsoft PowerPoint. Provided in-depth instruction, challenging design projects, and diversified assessments on graphic design principles, software, and techniques. Guided students to develop digital portfolios conforming to industry standards.

Digital Imaging – Lecture and teach an intensive introduction to pixel-based and vector-based graphic software, and web-optimization; Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and HTML5. Provide in-depth instruction, challenging design projects, and diversified assessments on graphic design principles, software, and techniques. Guide students to develop print and digital portfolios that conform to current industry hiring standards.

Portfolio Development – Students developed interview-quality digital portfolios as the final project for each course. They are able to describe projects in industry terms; outlining target audiences, media, message, and calls to action.

WORKS IN PROGRESS

Simone Jenifer Design, communications and graphic design industry blog targeted to recent graduates who are early in their graphic design careers. This blog offers career advice, showcases professional portfolios, and offers software tutorials. To date, over 60,000 graphic designers have read and shared these articles. 2008 – ongoing.

Introduction to Graphic Design Open Source Curriculum, online learning tools— available for students, educators, and the larger online community. These course materials are adapted from and open for remix, reuse, or direct share under the Creative Commons – Share Alike License. The course covers basic instruction in design concepts, typography, and multi-page design.
